Annual focus 2016 "Break It Down"
2016 saw many areas of society as a whole break in, break up and break down. By choosing the theme "BREAK IT DOWN", FIFTITU% has once again demonstrated a feel for current and upcoming developments and issues.
A currently prevailing image of reality are physically erected borders, walls or fences that exclude more and more people from a perceptible society.
The concept of a society that is perceived and participated in its entirety is the explicit starting point of our actions. This has been and will be brought into reality and experienced publicly in all our discussions, workshops, screenings, performances, etc. It is an integral part of FIFTITU%'s ongoing projects and events, such as "DIE Technik ist weiblich*", "DIE MEDIEN sind weiblich*", the annual boat trip "Fahrende Händler*innen", the actions on March 8, the discourse project on feminist language, the radio and TV broadcasts as well as in the various cooperation projects.
The fact that our society is still dominated by men* was demonstrated not least by the recent election of state councillors in the Upper Austrian state parliament: All nine state councillor positions were initially filled by men*. Only with Birgit Gerstorfer, who was appointed State Councillor for Women and Social Affairs, did a woman* finally find her way into the government.
The exclusion of women* from Upper Austrian politics was taken as an opportunity by FIFTITU% in cooperation with the March 8th Alliance and the initiative #ohneunsvielspaß - das feiern wir! to initiate a constant protest action - the women* state parliament sessions.
