Struggling to find your way through the funding jungle? With newsbase.at, FIFTITU% offers you a well-curated selection of reliable calls from the worlds of art, culture and science. The database brings together prizes, competitions, grants, artist-in-residence programmes and research funding from Austria and beyond.
newsbase.at was launched in 2023 and is continuously curated by FIFTITU%. Every call is reviewed before publication and checked for legitimacy. So you no longer have to scroll through ten browser tabs to make sure you don’t miss the next deadline.
Rethought with Roromedia
As part of the platform redesign with the agency Roromedia, newsbase.at was fundamentally reimagined. In the run-up to this, the team carried out an extensive user research phase with artists to identify the community’s actual needs and obstacles. The result is two features that make navigating the funding jungle significantly easier.
The interactive map
The first is an interactive map. It shows all open calls geographically located. This allows funding opportunities to be explored not only thematically but also spatially. Anyone looking for local residencies, regional grants or cross-border collaborations can see at a glance what’s available on their doorstep and where it’s worth venturing.
Klemma, your personal assistant
The second is Klemma, your personal assistant on the platform. Klemma remembers what matches your interests, sends you personalised reminders as deadlines approach, and suggests new calls for proposals that you might otherwise have missed. She is friendly, unobtrusive and relieves you of the constant need to monitor the funding calendar yourself.
Calls with Benefits
What makes newsbase.at special is its feminist perspective on the funding landscape. Using the Calls with Benefits feature, you can filter calls for proposals by criteria such as fair pay, women’s funding policies, LGBTQIA* visibility, green production, cultural education or support for emerging talent. This way, you can see at a glance which funding bodies are seriously transparent about their structures and which are merely paying lip service.

With a free registration, you’ll also receive a personalised newsletter, a bookmark and reminder function, and access to the Magazine, where artists share their experiences with grants, residencies and funding bodies. If you like, you can add any call directly to your own calendar.
For organisations
newsbase.at is also of interest to organisations. By submitting a call, you can reach artists and cultural producers in German-speaking countries directly via the database, email newsletters and FIFTITU%’s social media channels.
More than just a database
newsbase.at sees itself not merely as a collection of links, but as a feminist tool against a lack of transparency in the cultural funding sector. It highlights where funding is available, who awards it and under what conditions. So that funding is no longer just a matter of having the right network, but becomes accessible to everyone.
