52 radio minutes: 50 years of International Whores' Day

Tue 24. June 2025, 14h - 15h | 1Std.

In the current issue of 52 Radio Minutes, we dedicate ourselves to an important political day of remembrance: International Whores' Day, which marks its 50th anniversary this year.

On 2 June 1975, over 100 sex workers* occupied a church in Lyon to protest against violence, repression and exclusion. This action is considered a milestone in the modern sex work movement.

To mark the anniversary, we present three contributions from recent years:

- A report on the city tour "On the trail of sex work in Linz", organised by maiz, the self-organisation of and for migrant women*
- A Interview with Trajche, sex worker activist and spokes person of Red Edition, the only self-organised group of sex workers in Austria - the interview was conducted in English and dates back to 2019 - produced by the radio series genderfrequenz at Radio Helsinki in Graz.
- A conversation with Celeste (LEFÖ) and Bernie (Red Edition) about current demands and structural challenges - organised by the editorial team at ANDI.
