Book club M.C.Monster*
At the end of the year, we invite you to a wintery book club evening.
After Octavia E. Butler, this time we are devoting ourselves to Angela Carter's "The Bloody Chamber".
A warm invitation also goes out to all those who have not read the book.
Come along, listen and/or join in the conversation!
We use the meeting not only to discuss the book, but also to have a cosy chat over mulled wine and biscuits and get to know each other better:)
Since the book consists of several shorter texts, there is also the opportunity to read out individual stories - if you like.
We look forward to seeing you!

The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter
(short description by the publisher Suhrkamp)
From the English by Maren Kames.
With an afterword by Mithu Sanyal and illustrations by Julia Kissina
Fathers, beasts, werewolves - the women in fairy tales have never had an easy life. In Angela Carter's cult adaptations of 'Bluebeard', 'Puss in Boots' and 'Beauty and the Beast', for example, the traditional distribution of roles is not only reversed, but blown up. Here, women become tiger brides and beauties become beasts, Erlkings are strangled with their own hair and werewolf grandmothers are killed by their granddaughters. The anti-heroines and heroines of these fairy tales seek revenge as much as they strive for love.
Angela Carter is the godmother of feminist (horror) literature. Her abysmal, erotic retellings of fairy tales still pack a punch more than fifty years after their publication.
M.C.Monster* is a queer-feminist media club that approaches the fantastic genre with a focus on horror. In monthly meetings, topic-specific films are shown, texts are read, lectures are offered, exhibitions, cinemas and evening events are visited and (re-)discussed.
