The second edition of the CINÉMA AFRICAIN! film festival is dedicated to central themes such as identity, colonial history, feminism and the relationships between people, land, nature and spirituality. A special focus is placed on artistically courageous forms, documentary and fictional narratives and in particular on the voices of female filmmakers from the African continent and its diaspora.

With a total of 16 films from 18 countries and in 11 languages, visitors can immerse themselves in a wide variety of stories from 5 to 8 November 2025. In addition to the film screenings, the festival also offers a diverse supporting programme, including a special book presentation: CINÉMA AFRICAIN: Archiving, Resistance and Freedom, edited by Nadia Denton and Sandra Krampelhuber, published by JAAPO - for the participation of women of colour.

We spoke to Sandra Krampelhuber, director of the festival and filmmaker, about the second edition. She tells us about the films, the thematic focus, the book CINÉMA AFRICAIN: Archiving, Resistance and Freedom and what the audience can expect this year.

The women's*strike on 24 October is inspired by the Icelandic women's*strike, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Back then, tens of thousands of women* in Iceland walked off the job; a moment that initiated social change and makes Iceland one of the most liveable countries for women* today.

In Vienna, around 2000 people gathered in front of the parliament on 24 October. They stood, sat or lay on red cushions, blankets and scarves as a visible sign of protest and solidarity. The call was: "Strike as long as you can and want!"

Voices can be heard from Starsky, Petra Unger, Marlene from the Vienna Midwife Centre, journalist Julia Pühringer, rapper and slam poet Yasmo and Liza from the initiative Frauen*streik im FZ.
