Frauensommeruni Linz 2011

Frauensommeruni Linz 2011

With the motto "Life realities: Think further. Act further", the Women's Summer University is taking place in Linz for the first time this year. Over two days, women from all over Austria can take part in workshops, lectures and discussions on topics relevant to women at the University of Art and Design Linz. The Women's Summer University offers participants a space of education and emancipation for women of all ages, all* and all* backgrounds and completely independent of their respective life stories.
Registration Women's Summer University 2011

The project is explicitly aimed at all women - but especially at women outside the academic environment. In addition to imparting knowledge, the focus is on the exchange of experiences and, in a very practical way, the direct participation in shaping the Women's Summer University.

This year, the Women's University will focus on the realities of women's lives in different contexts. The topics range from the situation of female employees* to the portrayal of both genders in computer games. The aim is to build bridges and establish connections between everyday experiences, science and the field of politics.Concepts and strategies for the implementation of equality between women and men are to be discussed and, as far as possible, concretized.

Women's universities have had a long tradition in Europe since the 1970s. They were created to establish female freedom at universities, which were still very much dominated by men at the time. Women's universities have been organized in Austria again since 2005, with this year's Women's Summer University in Linz taking place in a special year, as International Women's Day was celebrated for the first time 100 years ago. However, even today - 100 years later - women are still not equal to men in all areas of life. The organizers of this year's Women's Summer University in Linz therefore took this anniversary as an opportunity to draw attention to the inequalities that still exist with the theme "Life realities and utopias"
