"in memoriam GABRIELE HEIDECKER"

On April 14, 2008, Gabriele Heidecker passed away at the age of 47. Gabriele Heidecker was born in Linz in 1961. she worked as a surveying technician for 13 years before studying architecture at the University of Art and Design Linz in the 1990s. Her work focused on space - in particular public space - as a cultural configuration of social relationships. Gabriele Heidecker has realized numerous projects ranging from public arts and curatorial work to building projects, architectural concepts and architectural mediation. Her life has been characterized by a constant commitment to cultural and women's political issues.

She co-founded FIFTITU% - Networking Center for Women in Art and Culture in Upper Austria and was chairwoman of the association from 2003. In memory of Gabriele Heidecker, the "Gabriele Heidecker Prize" has been awarded annually since 2011.

From March 8 to 28, 2014, the traveling exhibition "Hidden Women" was on display in the library of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. . With this project, FIFTITU% presents female artists from the fields of literature, music, visual arts and science who have deliberately worked under a pseudonym, are still working or whose works have been appropriated by men. The exhibition comprises 16 biographies of very different women who nevertheless have one thing in common: Their work in a patriarchal society. This society has established norms and value hierarchies that exclude women and their work or do not appreciate it to the same extent as that of men

The diverse mechanisms of our normative society resulted in the deliberate use of pseudonyms or made it possible for the works to be appropriated by men. 13 women presented in the exhibition used or use pseudonyms that are almost exclusively male.

On site, we spoke to the organizers Eva Moser and Elena Grigolato about the "Hidden Women" exhibition, which took place from 8 to 28 March 2014 in the library of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano.

Also to be heard - a reading from letters by Camille Claudel that were read as part of the supporting program at the end of the exhibition.

On April 7, 2014, a book presentation and discussion entitled "KRANKHEIT UND GESCHLECHT" feminist philosophy and psychosocial counselling with Dr.in Bettina Zehetner took place at the autonomous women's center.

Dr. Bettina Zehetner is a philosopher with a research focus on combining feminist theory and psychosocial counseling practice, psychosocial counselor at "Frauen beraten Frauen", trainer for gender competence, counselor for separation and divorce and lecturer at the Departments of Philosophy and Sociology at the University of Vienna.

The questions she asked were: How can we use Judith Butler's theory of the performative production of gender to analyze psychosomatic illness phenomena and psychosocial counseling processes? How can gender parody develop subversive potential as a tool in counseling? A feminist-genealogical perspective offers new approaches to the connections between language and body, gender and society and can have an emancipatory effect in counseling, psychotherapy and medicine. On March 31 and April 1, the Tabakfabrik hosted a symposium entitled "German as a second language. Emancipation, empowerment and violence?" took place at Tabakfabrik. The event was organized by maiz - the Autonomous Centre by and for Migrant Women in Linz. Cooperation partners were the University of Vienna, with the Department of Second Language, and the University of Paderborn.

In addition to numerous plenary lectures and discussions, Nikita Dhawan gave a lecture on "Language, Violence and Representation". Nikita Dhawan is a doctor of philosophy and junior professor of political science with a focus on gender and postcolonial studies at Goethe University in Frankfurt. In her lecture "Language, Violence and Representation", she takes a critical look at the violence of colonial discourses and considers the dynamic interactions between language, silence and violence. At the center of this is the question of representation: Who speaks in whose name? Who is perceived and how? Nikita Dhawan in a recording about postcolonial feminism, language and silence.
