Johanna Schaffer researches, teaches and translates in the field of visual culture and material aesthetics with a queer-feminist anti-racist focus. Together with Tom Holert and Renate Lorenz, she established the art-based PhD in Practice program at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Recent publications include "Ambivalenzen der Sichtbarkeit. Über die visuellen Strukturen der Anerkennung", published by transcript in 2008, as well as the bilingual anthology "Mehr(wert) queer - Queer Added (Value). Visuelle Kultur, Kunst und Gender-Politiken - Visual Culture, Art, and Gender Politics". For her current research project, see www.troublingresearch.net.
